Richard du Prée was born on 11 September 1965, in the city of Rotterdam, the Netherlands. He is the oldest cousin of Maurice and Vincent du Prée and older brother of Nancy. Richard started kyokushin karate at the dojo of Loek Hollander in Rotterdam, the Netherlands in early 1987.

Only 2 years after his first kyokushin training, Richard participated in his first kyokushin kumite tournament. He participated in many Kyokushin kumite tournaments from 1991 onwards. And has proven to be a very tough fighter. Till date Richard appeared in three consecutives Dutch Open tournaments.

Over the many years of practice he has found his influences in Shihan Peter Voogt, Sensei Eric Constancia, Sensei Mansour Ibrahim and teammate and co-instructor Sensei Remi da Silva Oliveira. In 1998, Richard became instructor in the early stage of Sensei Remi's Sidneykai dojo in Berkel, The Netherlands. In 2000 Richard participated in the Dutch Open Championships. Being heavily injured on one hand he made it to the final 8 in the heavy weight category. (In certain bouts Richard punched only 4 to 8 times during 3 minutes!).

The following year (2001) Richard participated in the Dutch Open again. He progressed till the final 8 before finding his superior in an Internationally known and experienced fighter. In July 2001, he was promoted to 1st kyu. The year after Richard was awarded Shodan by Shihan Loek Hollander at the European International Summerschool Papendal, The Netherlands (in July 2002).
In November 2003 Richard took off to Japan for 2 weeks to train and experience the Japanese way of kyokushin training. He trained in honbu as well as Yosai Setagaya's sangenjaya dojo.

Richards current focus is on becoming a more balanced and inspiring instructor and to coahing and training future kyokushin talents.

He has one lovely daughter, Richalie and one 'samurai' son Kyran, born in June of 2004.
