Rudolf Conquet was born on April 25th, 1971, in the city of Willemstad on the island of Curacao. He started kyokushin karate at the dojo of Shihan Henry Gougon on Curacao in 1981 at the age of 10. Today, Rudolf has become a very wise and strong kyokushin karateka, who has shown his exeptional skills in many kyokushin kumite tournaments.
After practicing karate for 7 years, Rudolf started teaching the elderly of Curacao at the age of 17. Not much later he opened his own dojo 'Black Eagle' in Curacao. It was then when he met Sensei Eric constancia and decided to train in his dojo on Curacao. According to Rudolf a whole new world of kyokushin karate opened up for him when he started training under the supervision of Sensei Constancia. ' This is when i really started to train karate!'. Rudolf became the Curacao National Champion twice!
Together with sensei Constancia, Rudolf travelled to Japan, to fight in his first World Tournament. After the Championships Rudolf decided to stay to train in the Honbu dojo in Tokyo, for 3 months as uchi-deshi. In the Honbu he trained with the world greatest fighters in kyokushin. Among others, former World Champion Francisco Alves Filho, Nicholas Pettas and Ryu Narushima. Rudolf also participated in the All Japan Tournament of that same year. He says that the combination of Eric Constancia and his stay in Japan has been the perfect match for him and made him the karateka that he is today.
In 1998 Rudolf decided to make the big step across the Atlantic and went to find his luck in the Netherlands. He participated in the Flanders Cup 1998, in Belgium, where he became a National favorite within only seconds. Rudolf won the tournament with a lot of convinction and an extremely high spirit. This did not go by unseen by former Dutch National head coach Shihan Vleesenbeek, who selected him right away for the European Championships in Kiev, Ukraine.
In Kiev, Rudolf fought head to head with Europe's best, but was disadvantaged by what appeared to be bad judging in the 3rd round of the tournament.
In November 1999, Rudolf took off to Japan, with the National team, to fight in his second (The 8th) World Championships in Tokyo. He made it to the 3rd round, but found his superior in the renown Brasilian powerhouse Glaube Feitosa. Feitosa achieved 4th Place later in the tournament.
On March 12, 2000 Rudolf participated in the Dutch Open. He fought the final against German Florian Ogunade. After two exhausting rounds with no obvious winner, Rudolf lost because of breaking less boards. He achieved second place. That same year he also participated in the European Championships in Porto, Portugal on May 20th.
Later that year at the International summerschool 2000 it was officially announced that German Florian Ogunade, who won the super heavy weight final at the Dutch Open in March 2000, has been found positive in the drugtest. This made Rudolf Conquet the true Dutch Champion for 2000.
On March 18, 2001 Rudolf again participated in the Dutch Open Kyokushin Championships in Dordrecht, The Netherlands. He made it to the final but had to be satisfied with 2nd place because of breaking less boards after 2 extension rounds.
In May of 2001 Rudolf fought at the European Championships in Szentes, Hungary, were he made it to the 3rd round of the tournament.
The following year In Varna, Bulgaria at the European Championships of 2002 Rudolf gained 3rd place. This was his first placing at the European Championships podium. In November of 2002 Rudolf fought the 2nd Open European Championships in Wroclaw, Poland and achieved 7th place.
Unfortunately Rudolf was not selected to fight in the 9th World Championships in Tokyo, Japan, which was be held in November of 2003.
In 2004 Rudolf switched to his former Sensei, Eric Constancia. He trained hard to regain his form from right after he came back from Japan. The result was an overwhelming spirit and condition which led him to his first undisputed victory of the Dutch Open Tournament 2005 and a 3rd place at the Super Heavy weight division of the European Championships(2005) in Varna, Bulgaria.
In 2007, Rudolf competed in the Dutch Open after a one year hiatus. He once again proved to be force to be reckoned with as he fought himself to the no. 1 spot once again. Unfortunately, Rudolf was not selected to compete in the World Championships of 2007 and he decided to accept an offer of Shihan Francisco Filho to help his students prepare for the World tournament in Sao Paolo, Brasil. Rudolf helped them prepare for 4 months after which he returned to the Netherlands.
